ABSTRACT

This chapter gives examples and simulation models of a number of optically amplifi ed transmission systems in MATLAB® and Simulink®, employing advanced modulation formats such as amplitude shift keying (ASK), differential phase shift keying (DPSK), differential quadrature phase shift key (DQPSK), minimum shift keying (MSK), and Starquadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) with optically amplifi ed spans using either erbium-doped fi ber amplifi ers (EDFAs) or distributed Raman optical amplifi ers (ROAs). In the appendix, we provide instructions on the use of these models-the MATLAB and Simulink codes of these models can also be downloaded from CRC Press sites.
