ABSTRACT
This chapter reviews the major autonomic nervous sys tem drugs, norepinephrine, the neurotransmitter; epi nephrine, the hormone secreted from the adrenal medulla; dopamine, an endogenous central nervous sys tem (CNS) neurotransmitter; isoproterenol, a pure P ago nist; and dobutamine, a pure Pi agonist. All of these nat urally occurring substances are commercially available as medications.
