ABSTRACT
Glycosides that have positive inotropic actions on the heart occur widely in nature and can be prepared synthet ically. The cardiac glycosides consist of a group of chem ically and pharmacologically related substances derived from various plants (Table 21-1); each comprises a char acteristic steroid molecule coupled with one or more types of sugar molecules.
