ABSTRACT
The agents discussed in this chapter have in common their ability to cause local effects resembling a chemical bum as well as additional systemic effects. These agents consist of oxidizing agents such as the dichromates, hypochlorites and bleach, potassium permanganate, and hydrogen peroxide (Table 30-1). These agents produce damage because they become oxidized when in contact with body tissue, which often releases a toxic moiety.
