ABSTRACT
The elimination of certain drugs from the body may be aided by methods that make use of pharmacokinetic pa rameters that affect drug excretion (1). These include forced diuresis with or without ion-trapping methods; the use of multiple-dose activated charcoal; dialysis; hemoperfusion; hemofiltration; and plasmapheresis (Table 3-1) (2-8). Except for the use of activated charcoal, these methods have one feature in common: the vasculature must deliver the drug to the site of removal, whether this be the chamber of an extracorporeal machine, the peri toneal space, or the kidney (9).
