ABSTRACT

Outcomes after surgery and anaesthesia are always related to the type of surgery and characteristics of the patient population. It is intuitively obvious that young people recover more quickly and with fewer problems than old sick people, and it is easier to recover from minimally invasive surgery, especially if no muscle is cut, as compared to extensive surgery. It is important, therefore, to consider the outcomes for each particular surgical technique and client population as separate entities. Demographic details for all our total joint arthroplasty patients are listed in Table 5.1.
