ABSTRACT
Muons (μ+, μ−) occur naturally in cosmic ray showers, but not in great enough intensity for study. Therefore,theyareproducedartiŸciallywithMeVkineticenergies(4.1MeVforsurfacemuonsand largerenergiesformuonsfromdecaychannels)atnuclearacceleratorslikeTRIUMFinCanada, RutherfordAppletonLaboratory(RAL)intheUnitedKingdom,ThePaulScherrerInstitutein Switzerland, and the Japan Proton Accelerator Research Complex.
