ABSTRACT

The virus family Filoviridae is comprised of enveloped, nonsegmented, negative-stranded RNA viruses divided into two genera, Marburgvirus and Ebolavirus [2]. The loviruses are members of the larger order Mononegavirales that includes other families with similar genomic characteristics and organization. Unlike Ebolavirus, Marburgvirus exhibits little genetic variation, containing only a single species, Lake Victoria marburgvirus (MARV). There are six Marburgvirus strains identied, with the Musoke strain isolated in Kenya in 1980 designated as the prototype for the genus.
