Persistence of Vision A photographic flashbulb has a total flash duration of about 1/25 second, or 40 milliseconds (ms). An electronic flashtube produces a flash lasting about 1 ms. A pulse laser’s flash lasts a mere 25 nanoseconds (ns). Their durations are very different, though the total energy they emit is similar.
