ABSTRACT

In the silver halide process the sensitive material consists of a suspension of tiny silver microcrystals in gelatin, coated on a transparent polyester film base. It is called an emulsion.

It records the light intensity at each point on the optical image, in the form of a chemical change that produces a latent image, and this is the first stage of the photographic process. “Latent” means “unrevealed,” as there is no visible change at this stage, except perhaps under an electron microscope.
