ABSTRACT

In ammation is a contributing factor to the muscle loss observed during cancer, chronic heart failure, chronic renal diseases, HIV/AIDS, and bacterial infections.1-4 This chapter is concerned with anti-in ammatory bioactive peptides. Major kinds of in ammatory responses to illness are discussed in Section 6.1. Intracellular signaling leading to in ammation is reviewed in Section 6.2. Naturally occurring and synthetic peptides having anti-in ammatory activity are described in Section 6.3. We describe in vivo studies and human clinical trials involving anti-in ammatory peptides in Section 6.4.
