ABSTRACT

This chapter sets the stage for the following chapters by using the “BASICS” model to look at Lean System Implementation. The BASICS model contains Žve phases:

Baseline Assess/Analyze Suggest Solutions Implement Check Sustain

The BASICS system implementation model is provided as a simplistic roadmap or a guide to navigate through a Lean initiative or project. It can be used instead of, or in conjunction with, the traditional PDCA model or DMAIC problem-solving models. The Baseline phase begins with discussions surrounding:

• Voice of the customer • Value stream mapping • Supplier, Inputs, Process, Outputs, Customers (SIPOC) • Consumer Quality Index (CQI)

The initial phase “B” which stands for baseline and its components are detailed within this chapter. The concept of ETDBW (“easy to do business with”) is discussed as a customer orientation to your process and how easy it is for them to work with you.
