ABSTRACT
As hospitals grow they employ traditional methods of operations for inpatient units. When more beds are needed to care for patients, those beds are added to new oor units and divided into manageable unit-based areas. These units traditionally contain a central nursing station surrounded by rooms. This creates divisions and isolated areas of independent business units within an organization with different needs and performance expectations although they have the same patient goals.
