ABSTRACT

In Chapter 2, heat transfer was defined as the form of energy transfer that takes place between two objects that are at different temperatures. The mechanism by which heat transfer occurs depends on whether there is any material medium between the two objects and if that medium is moving or not. Three different mechanisms or modes of heat transfer are conduction, convection, and radiation. An overview of these heat transfer mechanisms are given in this chapter and more detailed discussions will be left for Chapters 8 through 13.
