ABSTRACT

It surprises most fact-finders to learn that there are in fact only eight methods of investigation. Of these, there are only six methods for those conducting workplace investigations; the last two, search warrants and grand jury, are not available to those conducting most workplace investigations. In this chapter we will explore these methods and how they are used during the third phase of the investigation. It is during this phase, the information gathering phase, that the fact-finder and his team must select and combine the appropriate methods and deploy them in the proper sequence in order to achieve the investigation’s objectives.
