ABSTRACT

Troubleshooting is the identi•cation or diagnosis of “trouble” in an extrusion system caused by a mechanical failure or misapplication of extrusion processing parameters. Extrusion cooking is a complex process that is often de•ned as more of an art than a science. There is, however, a systematic approach to understanding and training for extrusion troubleshooting by organizing the process into manageable topical areas. Training shortens the learning curve and reduces time spent in diagnostics and troubleshooting and returning the extrusion system equilibrium.
