The Built-in-Quality (BIQ ) pillar boldly wears its first and primary principle-you must never pass defects or errors to the next process. It holds that quality at the source and immediate root-cause problem solving is necessary to keep the cogs of JIT production spinning freely. They are principles, and they are “musts.” In many original Toyota House diagrams, this pillar is labeled jidoka.
