ABSTRACT

In Toyota’s only book published on their revolutionary production system, they state,

Toyota Production System (TPS) principles always show respect for people. If the change does not reinforce respect, it should not be

implemented. This is not to say TPS is easy on people or leaders that are faint of heart. TPS always assumes the very best about people. In poka-yoke, or error proofing, the worker is never blamed. Leaders teach the error-proofing principles to the best workers and ask them to help install true error-preventing solutions so that all employees can do error-free work. They believe that it is management’s job to create a system by which people can work error free. It is this uncompromising respect for associates that makes up the center pillar.
