ABSTRACT
A¢er recalling a few salient features of turbulent dispersion, this chapter reviews classical and relatively new theories. Following the observation that turbulent dispersion typically proceeds not only much faster but also in a qualitatively different manner than molecular di§usion, it is argued that the conventional approach of eddy di§usivity is inadequate and an alternative model ought to be developed to better represent observed behavior.
