ABSTRACT

Advances in radiation treatment planning dose calculations and radiation delivery are able to tightly conform the radiation to the shape of the intended target while sparing surrounding normal tissues. šese have led to the development of treatment machines with integrated planar and volumetric imaging capabilities. Image-guided radiation therapy has dramatically improved the accuracy of radiation delivery and has emerged as the new paradigm for patient positioning and target localization in radiotherapy. It is now possible to deliver the radiation dose to the intended target much more precisely.
