ABSTRACT
Dr. Lucian Leape, the co-founder of the patient safety movement more than a decade ago, is confident that healthcare is moving in the right direction but the progress to date is dismal. He is now pushing for reforming medical education. Twenty percent of hospitals still fail to conduct timeouts before surgery, an effort known to be important in preventing the remarkably frequent wrong site surgery [1].
