ABSTRACT
The purpose of histochemistry is to visualize in situ the chemical nature of cell and tissue structures. Histochemistry is used to study animals, vegetables, and humans in good health as well as pathology. To be visualized, cell and tissues must be first preserved in a state as near as possible to the living state. Then they will be visualized with several reactions based upon physical and histochemical properties. The use of control methods allows one to be precise if the staining obtained is specific. Contrary to biochemistry, substances stay in place during the histochemical investigation. Biochemistry also allows precise quantitative studies. For a long time, histochemistry was only qualitative, but today histochemistry allows quantification of results using image analysis.
