ABSTRACT

The Metropolitan Borough of Barnsley was one of the many areas affected by the 2007 Ÿooding. It was Ÿooded twice in June 2007 in quick succession and, in common with many areas, the Ÿooding affected many districts that had not experienced Ÿooding before and were poorly prepared. This chapter describes the Ÿooding event from the perspective of the Metropolitan Borough Council (MBC). It covers the impact on communities and council properties, the response of the borough council, and the community reaction to it. Finally, the chapter deals with the post-Ÿood analysis and recovery actions and the future aims of the council generated from lessons learned from the Ÿooding.
