ABSTRACT

The business landscape has been changing rapidly over the last several decades due to many factors, including global competition, more demanding shareholders, significant economic fluctuations, stock market volatility, and innovations in technology. This new environment has significantly accelerated the pace of change within businesses. To stay competitive, companies have had to transform their business agendas, which are heavily reliant on information technology (IT). They must focus on delivering more strategic and complex solutions with technology while at the same time reducing the cost to deliver IT services and increasing the productivity of IT resources. These transformation agendas have resulted in a different composition of technology projects, which poses a new set of challenges to the project management professionals who are accountable for the delivery of those projects.
