ABSTRACT
We have been concerned with the propagation of light in nonconducting media. We now turn our attention to describing the interaction of light with conducting materials such as metals and semiconductors. Metals and semiconductors, absorbing media, are crystalline aggregates consisting of small crystals of random orientation. Unlike true crystals, they do not have repetitive structures throughout their entire forms.
