Hypertension is highly prevalent in the U.S. population, affecting approximately one-third of all adults [1]. However, the prevalence, awareness, and severity of hypertension do vary by race/ethnicity. African Americans, for example, face more grim statistics, as hypertension tends to develop more frequently, at younger ages, and with greater severity among African Americans than among whites or Hispanic Americans [2].
