ABSTRACT
Three Irish prospectors Hannan, Flannigan and O’Shea discovered gold at Kalgoorlie in 1893 close to Mt Charlotte’s Cassidy Shaft (Figure 1). The subsequent gold rush centered on the fabulously rich Golden Mile area, 5 km to the south, where a large open pit is presently being mined through previous extensive underground workings.
