ABSTRACT
The Veterans Health Administration has been a national leader in developing and implementing health infonnation technology (HIT) with the award winning Veterans Health Infonnation Systems and Technology Architecture (VistA). VistA has several components including: the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS), computerized physician order entry (CPOE), and Bar Code Medication Administration (BCMA). CPRS allows access to a single medical record from multiple clinical settings. BCMA is an application which aids in assuring the right patient gets the right medication at the right time.
