ABSTRACT

Caddisfly, Black-winged Damselfly, Common Snout Butterfly, and Northeastern Sawfly. Many books and some organizations use this convention (e.g., Alden et al. 2007 and NatureServe, 2008). Shetler and Orli (2000, 2002) use this taxonomic-awareness rule for plants. For example, plant species that are taxonomic roses (Rosa) are written as Carolina Rose, Prairie Rose, and Swamp Rose. Plant species which are not taxonomic roses are written as Desert-rose, Guelderrose, and Orchid Rockrose.
