ABSTRACT

Success Every Time (SET) is a method that uses error-proofing devices that prevent operators from making mistakes, thereby stopping errors before they ever occur. The SET strategy needs clearly defined consequences for kicked-out parts. The company needs a plan to handle the proper marking and identification of each substandard part as well as marking the defects related to each part. In most businesses, production operators succeed most of the time. In the auto industry, for example, the rate of defective parts is usually under 200 defective parts per million produced. SET is built upon a strategy that places cost-effective error-proofing devices into battery replacement operator operation, and these devices need to work as they were designed to work. The most successful companies have an ability to copy the best practices and standardize as much as possible. In simple terms, they capture the best ideas and share them across the organization-they have a library of great ideas.
