ABSTRACT

The Success Every Time (SET) process can ultimately save a lot of money and needs to be recognized for the value it can bring to the company. To maximize the benefits, product engineering needs to use physical interference devices to help operators always select the right parts and position them perfectly. The finance staff needs to understand the total cost of errors and provide the economic justification to place error-proofing devices in ideal locations. Manufacturing engineers have to come up with the clever devices that help operators succeed, and with minimal cost and maximum precision. Quality staff has the responsibility to keep the total quality system functioning as designed. Management needs to understand that its role to help the organization make tasks easier for the operator. Product development processes to build in a unique feature on each part—a feature approved by the manufacturing engineers—as a reference point for the SET process to work.
