ABSTRACT

The grocery checkout order includes a loaf of bread, one dozen eggs, and a bottle of 50-mg DHEA tablets. It is that easy to purchase dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA). Because many websites claim that DHEA is “all natural” and the “hormone of youth,” it is okay for anyone to take it, right? What if the buyer does not check the ‰ne print on the side of the bottle that says “Do not take if you are pregnant or have prostate or breast cancer”? What if he does not suspect he has cancer? This chapter attempts to de‰ne how various factors impact DHEA effects on the prostate.
