ABSTRACT

Caloric intake and physical activity are popular topics today for many individuals because of the increased focus on living a healthy lifestyle. There are several health organizations that have developed recommendations on daily caloric intake for overall health and performance, with speci™cs for each of the macronutrients. Activity level is also directly linked to calorie demands. The greater the physical activity level of an individual, the greater the caloric intake needs. The reverse is true for sedentary individuals. In order to maintain weight and overall health, an excess of calories can be detrimental. The balance of energy intake and output is important to maintain health and ™tness goals. For example, when intake exceeds output, this may lead to health problems such as obesity. Also, when intake is too low for the given output, this could lead to malnutrition and the inability to maintain physical performance.
