ABSTRACT

It is difficult to create a culture that requires engineers and shop floor associates to use industrial statistics such as process capability studies, design of experiments, analysis of variance (ANOVA), and so forth, to solve shop floor problems and otherwise improve production processes. The only effective way to create such a culture is for management, beginning at the highest level, when presented with a problem to ask the prime question-“What kind of problem is it, is it one of instability or is it one of incapability?”
