ABSTRACT

India is home to countless varieties of ¨ ora and fauna. Due to its favorable climate, variations in soil, and availability of water resources, a large number of plants grow even in rough terrains. Many virgin forests add natural wealth to the environment that accommodates rare plant species but many still remain unexplored and unidentiŸed. In addition to food and commercial crops, many exotic plants are also cultivated in some parts of the subcontinent. The popular indigenous medical systems and folklore practices ¨ourished over the years utilizing the plant kingdom as the major armamentarium to treat diseases.
