ABSTRACT

The term drug interaction means the interaction of the drug with other factors that can lead to modication of the drug response. These factors can be another drug, food, beverage, nutrient, herb, disease, alcohol, or tobacco. So drug-drug interaction (DDI) can be dened as the change in the therapeutic and/or adverse effects of a drug by prior or concurrent administration of a second drug. It is also possible that the effect of both drugs is modied when used together. This denition can be expanded to include the situations when administration of two drugs that do not affect each other can diminish or amplify the therapeutic and/or adverse effects of the two drugs. For example, when two drugs that have opposite effect on blood glucose concentration, two antihypertensive drugs, or two nephrotoxic drugs, are administered concurrently.
