ABSTRACT

Constant rate IV infusion has been used to maintain a relatively constant drug concentration that is important for producing a steady therapeutic effect. However, once the patient’s condition is stabilized, the patient is shifted to multiple-dose regimen, which involves administration of a xed dose of the drug at every xed dosing interval (τ), when continued disease control is required. Also, multiple-dose regimens are used in patients with medical conditions that require extended period of treatment such as in the management of chronic diseases. These patients can take the drugs either by repeated IV or oral administration.
