Introduction

This chapter looks to motivate you to read and study this book. We hope to open your mind to a fascinating and practical engineering tool, and we do so by introducing the concept of modeling using a simple, common sense example. The example also shows the use of basic differentials learned in calculus courses. The definition of differential equations, several terms related to them, and a few comments about simulation, are also presented.
