ABSTRACT
This entry reviews the progress in both semiconductor modulator and LiNbO3 Mach–Zehnder (MZ) modulator devices. The semiconductor modulator can be divided into semiconductor waveguide modulator and semiconductor surface normal modulator, and the semiconductor waveguide modulator can be further divided into electroabsorption and MZ modulators. A general review of all of these modulators and their application are described.
