ABSTRACT
A number of years ago, a small ad appeared in the local newspaper. A medical practice had experienced a fire, and they were asking patients to call a phone number. It seems that the practice had lost all of their records and was temporarily out of business. The attacks of September 11, 2001, disrupted critical business activities that had an impact far beyond the United States. In the course of the day, building evacuations in Atlanta, Chicago, and Boston disrupted hundreds of businesses as well. The financial exchanges located in the World Trade Center complex buildings relocated to backup trading floors within days, and major companies had relocated critical operations to disaster recovery facilities and were back up and running within hours.
