Unit I: Steps 1, 2, and 3, Introduction Purpose Œe purpose of Steps 1, 2, and 3 is to help guide you through the rst three steps required for handling a medical claim in a doctor’s oŽce or clinic. Step 1 involves the schedule, Step 2 covers medical records, and Step 3 concerns registration of a patient. Œese three steps are always handled in the front oŽce because the front oŽce personnel obtain the patient information. Œat information is either documented in the medical practice computer or on paper. Later, once the information is keyed into the computer, we will look at how that information is applied to the claim form and its importance.
