ABSTRACT
Product designs can greatly affect the final cost of the product. Added cost in the supply chain comes from poor specification, lack of inputs from suppliers and customers, poorly performing suppliers, part shortages, and unwieldy supply chains. The entry addresses measures to avoid these pitfalls.Functionally, however, collaborative engineering calls on a very large cross section of enterprise constituencies and is not limited to engineering or manufacturing professionals.—C.
