ABSTRACT

Under U.S. law, U.S. Customs and Border Protection's (CBP) officers are authorized to examine travelers and their luggage. Under authority granted by Congress, every person leaving and entering the U.S. may be searched and questioned about their travel. Hand‐carry shipments are considered exports and therefore are subject to the U.S. rules on export controls administered by Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS), CBP, and the Department of State. The entry contains a checklist for business travelers to check before they travel internationally.
