ABSTRACT

The authors describe six “remanufacturing‐friendly” conditions. These are the following:Nature of the product — a manufactured core that has long physical life. The value added in the product should also be mostly labor, energy, and capital — not material.Type and size of market — buyers should have experience with the product which favors industrial markets.Availability of returns — a high number of products should be available at a reasonable cost.Supporting infrastructure — return and forward logistics networks should be available to move the products.Remanufacturing technology availability — these include trade associations, publications, and universities.Legal and regulatory leeway — that support the remanufacturing supply chain.
