At advanced levels of maturity, functions work more closely together. This takes the form of sharing manufacturing schedules to reduce confusion and expediting. Engineering specifications are shared and standardized, and external resources used to make them stronger. First tier suppliers are aware sooner of manufacturing plans for new products and often make valuable contributions to the design.
