ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: A multidisciplinary approach to the management of thyroid cancers is crucial to optimal therapy. Clearly, close collaboration among surgeons, endocrinologists, medical oncologists, and radiation oncologists is imperative in this complex disease. In this context, the role of external beam radiation therapy (EBRT) is to provide local therapy, either at the primary site of disease or for metastatic foci. This chapter will focus on the use of EBRT in the locoregional management of thyroid cancer, and the emergent technologies, such as image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT), in the ˆeld as they pertain to thyroid cancer management.
