ABSTRACT

India is the second largest producer of food, with surfeit of nutritive and therapeutic compounds whose value is yet to be realized in modern market places. Though there had been multiple laws and regulations covering the foods market in India, there has been no single law that signiœcantly regulated the functional food market. As a result of the lapse and disordered health policies, the morbidity and mortality levels in the country are still high. Low investments in health are indicated as being the primary reason for poor quality and an uneven healthcare delivery system across the country. The poor people seek private health services at the cost of essential expenditure, such as nutrition, the report continued.
