ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses different types of robot architectures which with some more modifications could be useful for developing such architectures for any mobile vehicles/systems. It also discusses certain architectural design properties. The design of architecture for a mobile vehicle is an important aspect of mobile intelligent autonomous system (MIAS)/robotics. The reliability of functioning of the sub-systems as well as the entire MIAS/robotic system is very important to achieve the designated tasks without fail or any hindrance. The system should be built up of several modules and components that are able to connect and interact with each other with correct functionality. The autonomous behaviour is very important for some mobile vehicle systems since these might be called upon to operate in some hazardous situations where the direct involvement of the operator would be very risky. Most autonomous systems and vehicles should have the so-called artificial intelligence.
