ABSTRACT

Since some of the theory developed in Chapters 4 through 6 relied on the assumption of characteristic 0 (especially that portion in Chapters 5 and 6 using the Young-Frobenius theory of representations of 5n) , the theory in characteristic p ^ 0 requires a separate discussion. The most striking feature is that without the characteristic 0 assumption, Specht's problem now has a negative solution, and most of this chapter will be devoted to various counterexamples.
