ABSTRACT

Background A Before describing cognitive modeling in detail, it is helpful to provide some additional context. This will take the form of more detailed information on the other computational models that are important in games and animation. Aside from providing a stepping stone from older, more familiar ideas to new ones, this chapter will clarify many of the terms and definitions we will be using throughout the remainder of the book. Although it will not attempt a comprehensive survey, this chapter shall endeavor to provide enough details to make the book reasonably self-contained. Note that, since this chapter is essentially all background and further reading information, it has a slightly different format than the remaining chapters. In particular, all references are included in the text.
